Washington Commanders, HKS Unveil New Stadium Renderings

The Washington Commanders and design firm HKS have unveiled new renderings for the planned $3.8 billion stadium.

The renderings depict more views of the new Washington Commanders stadium slated for the former RFK Stadium site in D.C. In January, HKS unveiled initial renderings that showed a translucent, concave roof over a pillared stadium.

In a statement, the Commanders said the updated renderings highlight the team’s goal of “creating a neighborhood gathering place and national stage capable of hosting community programming and large-scale events beyond game days.”

The additional renderings are part of the federal approval process, and they emphasize green space, where the front plaza could be used for tailgating and other fan gatherings. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser pushed for the roof, citing the potential for year-round events.

The stadium is designed to hold up to 65,000 people. The redevelopment plan also calls for a mixed-use project with retail, entertainment, and residential options. The stadium is anticipated to open by 2030.
