Dallas Eyeing Downtown Tower for New City Hall
The 40-story Bryan Tower is being considered by Dallas as the location for a new City Hall. The Dallas Business Journal reports the owners of Bryan Tower, Pacific Elm, have been in discussions with the city regarding the city taking over the entire building. The Bryan Tower is currently unoccupied.
The tower is located at 2001 Bryan St. and was built in 1973.
A report by the Dallas Economic Development Corp. estimated it would cost nearly $1 billion to renovate the current city hall, saying most of the systems are beyond their usable life. If the decision is made to relocate, the city is seeking about 500,000 square feet of office space for traditional city functions.
Another building floated as a possible City Hall location is the former home of AT&T Inc.’s headquarters, Whitacre Tower. PacElm is a part owner of that property.
