Iconic Nashville Building Converting to Highrise Hotel

A local development firm is planning to develop a more-than-200-room hotel at the site of the iconic Barbershop Harmony Society, located near Broadway at 110 Seventh Ave. N. Sanders Carter is planning a development that could be a 30-story high-rise on the property. Sanders Carter is the development arm of Pinnacle Construction.

The Nashville Business Journal reports the development is expected to offer 250-275 upscale hotel rooms, food and beverage concepts, ballroom and meeting space, and penthouse amenity space.

The current 37,000-square-foot building (photo), known for its silver barber poles that adorn its façade, has been owned by and served as the Barbershop Harmony Society’s headquarters for 20 years. The local nonprofit, which promotes and preserves barbershop music as an art form, bought the property in 2006 for $1.45 million.

The majority of the Barbershop Harmony Society building will be torn down, but the iconic façade will be preserved and restored for the new development.
