Publix Pulls Permit for Massive Jax Warehouse

Publix Super Markets plans to build a 369,0454-square-foot logistics hub in Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Business Journal reports that the large-scale frozen foods warehouse, to be built by Gray Construction, will cost $135 million. The company just obtained a building permit, allowing them to begin work on the project. Publix purchased the site in 2012 for $3.07 million. The cold storage warehouse will be at 10132 General Ave. on 42 acres.

Publix has said the Jacksonville facility is part of its strategy to boost distribution capacity and supply chain efficiency in Northeast Florida. The grocer is also expanding its retail presence, including plans for one of the state’s largest Publix stores — a 55,701-square-foot location with an attached liquor store — in the SilverLeaf master-planned community in St. Johns County.

The company is also investing in other specialized facilities, such as a $30 million central fill pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in St. Johns County that is expected to be completed in 2026.
