New 60-Unit Tiny Home Village Opens in Tacoma

Pierce County, City of Tacoma, Washington State Department of Commerce and the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) recently celebrated the grand opening of Kingfisher Village, a new tiny home village in South Tacoma.

The new residential project at 1824 S. 84th Street will offer 60 units of affordable housing to people experiencing homelessness and living near public rights-of-ways, like highways, on- or off-ramps, under bridges, and more.

According to LIHI, the site cost $2 million to construct. The tiny homes were built with help from volunteers, including high school students. LIHI is partnering with Pierce County and the State Encampment Resolution Program at the Department of Commerce to operate Kingfisher Village as a 24/7 enhanced shelter on LIHI-owned land.
