WinnCompanies Opens Adaptive Reuse of Historic CT Manufacturing Complex
Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart joined WinnCompanies executives Tuesday at the opening of Ellis Block Apatments, an $85-million project that transformed a historic, long-vacant manufacturing complex near New Britain’s downtown into 154 apartments of modern affordable housing.
The adaptive reuse project converted four buildings in the 115-year-old Landers, Frary & Clark plant into 79 one-bedroom, 59 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom apartments geared toward young professionals, middle-income households and fixed-income seniors.
The 22-month construction effort supported more than 604 direct and indirect jobs and an economic impact of nearly $108 million in the New Britain area. The City of New Britain Department provided a fixed tax assessment and local HOME Funds to support the development.
“As we stand here today, all but four apartments are already occupied in this community, underscoring the strong demand for quality, affordable and workforce housing in New Britain,” said WinnDevelopment EVP Adam Stein.
