Forsyth County Okays NHL Arena Plan
It’s far from a sure thing, but Forsyth County is doing all it can to attract a professional hockey team. The local government is moving forward on a plan to develop roughly 100 acres on Georgia 400 near the Fulton County line.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports the county will issue a $250 million bond to help finance its $350 million contribution toward an 18,500-person arena. The financing depends on the National Hockey League allowing a team to play in the Atlanta suburb. Car dealership magnate Vernon Krause is helming the plan, which is being called the Gathering at South Forsyth.
The entire mixed-use project could cost $3 billion.
At full build-out, the development could include:
- 1,800 multi-family units and 150 single-family units
- At least two hotels consisting of 500 total rooms
- 1.6 million square feet of office and retail
- 15,000-square-foot building for fire and sheriff departments
- Off-site practice ice rink
