Sysco moving toward retail stores

Sysco to Open Retail Outlets in Houston

Sysco, one of the world’s largest restaurant food distributors, is piloting its first retail stores in Houston to attract small businesses seeking bulk food at wholesale prices. No delivery contract is required.

The Houston Chronicle reports the first Sysco to Go store opened this week near Memorial City in a former Bed, Bath and Beyond space at 10515 Katy Freeway. A second location is slated to open later this summer in a former Sprouts grocery store near NRG Stadium at 1212 Old Spanish Trail. The two stores would support 100 jobs.

The Sysco to Go stores are accessible to businesses and organizations that serve food outside the home, including restaurants, schools, churches and nonprofits. Customers must provide a tax ID to sign up for a membership, which is free.

Sysco services over 6,000 customers and recently completed a 185,000 square foot warehouse expansion to become one of the largest food distribution operations in the nation.
