Developer Transforming Old Braniff Building into Supportive Housing

Sycamore Strategies will receive a $7 million ARPA grant (American Rescue Plan Act) from the City of Dallas to redevelop a former Braniff Airlines building into supportive housing. The Dallas Business Journal reports the project is expected to cost around $32 million. It would add 48 units for households earning 60% of the area median income.

The project, at 2801 Wycliff Ave., will feature picnic areas, a movie theatre, a pavilion with seating and outdoor fans, and resident services including recreational activities, a food pantry and an annual health fair.  Sycamore Strategies is working with AIDS Services of Dallas in the community. The Dallas nonprofit provides housing and support services for low-income and homeless individuals and families living or impacted by HIV/AIDS, and will own and operate the facility.  

Constructed in 1968, the Wycliff Avenue property previously housed Braniff International’s Hostess College, a dormitory and training center for flight attendants. The building owners once considered converting the building into a 75-room luxury hotel.
