Mountain States Become Magnets for Inbound Migration

The Mountain region offers employment opportunities, affordable housing, outdoor recreation, and a relatively low cost of living, all of which could explain why these states are emerging as major domestic migration hubs, says Placer.ai. Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming in particular have consistently attracted inbound domestic migration in recent years, with Americans continuing to leave higher-density regions.

Between September 2023 and September 2024, Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming all experienced significant population growth due to inbound domestic migration. In a new white paper, 2024 Migration Trends: The Continued Draw of Mountain States, Placer.ai delves into recent migration data to find out why these three states are becoming top relocation destinations.

The white paper addresses the following questions:

  • What factors are driving high inbound migration to the Mountain States?
  • Which Idaho metro area is emerging as a significant hub for new residents?
  • What migration trends are shaping Nevada’s Las Vegas-Henderson area?
  • Why is Cheyenne, WY seeing a rise in urban relocation?
