LA Rises Initiative Aims to Spearhead Private-Sector Support of Wildfire Recovery

LA Rises, a recovery initiative to raise private-sector funding to help rebuild after this month’s firestorms, has been launched. Gov. Gavin Newsom has recruited Dodgers chairman Mark Walter, basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson and LA28 chairperson Casey Wasserman to spearhead the effort.

To seed the new effort, Walter, the Mark Walter Family Foundation and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation provided an initial commitment of up to $100 million. Plans call for raising additional funds through private donations.

“The LA fires have wreaked havoc on LA’s neighborhoods,” said Walter. “It’s time for those with means to come forward and make a positive impact to build back better.”

Along with fundraising, LA Rises will also brainstorm financing strategies to close the gap between available resources and the cost to rebuild and support unified communication efforts to arm Angelenos with accurate information while collaborating with other philanthropic and community organizations., reported L.A. Business First.
