Downtown Ballfield In Play in San Antonio

Advocates for a downtown San Antonio baseball stadium are getting closer to their field of dreams. The San Antonio Independent School District is willing to provide the land for the ballpark for the San Antonio Missions AAA team, which currently plays at Wolff Stadium, just outside of town. Plans for the $160 million ballfield are starting to show promise. The stadium would accommodate about 7,500 people.

The San Antonio Independent School District, which owns a site where ballpark backers want to build a new home for the San Antonio Missions, said its board of trustees is interested in playing ball.

Under the proposed deal, the district would convey the real estate to the county, which would agree to develop a new parking garage to be used by SAISD and for ballpark events. Bexar County would then convey the stadium site to a new San Pedro Creek Development Authority that includes representation from the city and county.
