UT student housing to convert to 185-bed hotel

UT Student Housing Converting to Hotel

Demolition work is underway at The G, a University of Texas student housing project. Work crews are converting the 10-year old property into a 185-room Tru by Hilton hotel. Work on the building will strip out much of the building’s interior and exterior, leaving a concrete shell which will serve as the bones for the hotel.

The Austin Business Journal reports the top six floors of the nine-floor hotel will house its rooms. The top floor of the existing parking garage will be converted into a lobby space with a bar, lounge, gym and reception area. Flynn Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed in March 2026.

United Capital owns the housing development at 1715 Guadalupe St.

UT has a total of 24,819 off-campus beds and another 1,225 are under construction, according to Yardi Matrix’s October student housing report.
