$500M San Antonio Factory Kicks Off 1st Phase
International manufacturer JCB will spend $184 million on the first phase of its new factory in south San Antonio. By the time it’s fully built out, the company says its investment will be over $500 million. The factory is expected to encompass 720,000 square feet on the 400-acre site. Infrastructure work has recently commenced. Production is expected to begin in early 2026.
San Antonio doled out $14 million in tax breaks, and Bexar County approved another $12 million in subsidies to entice the maker of telescopic handlers and other lift equipment.
JCB sold its first machine in North America in 1964 and opened its first US manufacturing plant in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, which employs 1,000 people. The new facility will manufacture machines for customers specifically in North America.
JCB employs 19,000 people globally and has 22 factories, including 11 in the UK, seven in India, and others in Brazil and China. The company will mark its 80th anniversary in 2025.
