Big Plans for Denver Arena Site

The Denver City Council has given the okay for Kroenke Sports & Entertainment to move forward on a massive redevelopment project next to Ball Arena, where the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche play their games.

The Denver Business Journal reports the redevelopment is expected to bring 6,000 housing units, 780 hotel rooms, retail spaces, a recreation center, a child care facility, new transit stops and a 3-acre park, along with increased connectivity to surrounding neighborhoods.

Kroenke could break ground on the development as early as next year, but it will take up to 30 years to complete.

The council unanimously rezoned the land, allowing buildings of up to 12 stories with incentives on parts of the project.

The council also passed an amendment that guarantees the Colorado Avalanche hockey team and the Denver Nuggets basketball team will remain in the area until at least June 30, 2050, along with a development agreement.
