Wicker Park Barnes & Noble to Open in Historic Bank Building

Barnes & Noble is opening a new Wicker Park bookstore, the second to open in Chicago this year. The bookstore occupies the historic Noel State Bank building and follows the bookseller’s return to Lincoln Park with a location on W. Diversey Parkway.

Barnes & Noble is leasing the entire 26,133-square-foot space at the iconic building that was a former Walgreens and was once home to Noel Street Bank. Located at 1601 North Milwaukee Ave., the Noel State Bank Building is situated in the heart of the landmarked Milwaukee Avenue District and is a historic site and architectural property in Chicago.

Barnes & Noble is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores, with the company announcing plans to open nearly 60 stores in 2024. “We are really looking forward to bringing Barnes & Noble to such a vibrant community,” said Store Manager James Pioth.
