Hoar Tops Out on 30-Story UT Austin Student Housing Project

Hoar Construction has topped out of Icon, a 30-story, Class-A apartment tower in the West Campus neighborhood near The University of Texas at Austin, signifying construction has reached its highest point. Hoar is serving as the general contractor on the construction of the building alongside developer MDL Development. Icon broke ground in March 2023 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025, in time for students to move in for the 2025-2026 school year.

Icon is expected to offer 555 student beds across 216 units, each one ranging from one to five bedrooms in size.

Amenities at the property will include a rooftop pool, a fitness center, game and lounge rooms, a media room, student work areas and four levels of below-ground parking.

UT has a housing shortage for undergraduate students. While more than 17,000 undergraduates applied for on-campus housing for the 2022-2023 school year, only 9,000 were accepted.
