Colorado School Spends $14M for Quantum Tech Hub
Colorado School of Mines has bought a 70 acre parcel not far from campus to build a quantum technology hub. The school purchased the industrial property at 18300 State Highway 72 for about $14 million, much of that coming from a federal grant.
The Denver Business Journal reports the development, called Quantum COmmons @ Arvada, is expected to become a “globally leading technology park, providing open access user facilities critical to accelerating the speed of progress in the quantum industry,” according to Elevate Quantum, a federally recognized group of a 70-plus-entities in Colorado and New Mexico. The school hopes the future site will help create 10,000 new jobs in the state by 2030.
Quantum COmmons @ Arvada is owned and operated by Mines in collaboration with Elevate Quantum and its partners. Mines fronted the cost to purchase the property and will essentially get partly reimbursed for the space.
The lab and fabrication facility has to be operational in 12 to 18 months according to terms of the U.S. Economic Development Administration grant.
