Wilmette Apartment Project Proposal Clears Hurdle
Plans for Glencoe, Illinois-based developer Optima, Inc. to construct a large apartment building on Wilmette’s Green Bay Road corridor have received initial approval from the local planning board.
The proposed Optima Lumina project would consist of 128 units and be the biggest new apartment building in the area. The project’s large scale has been met with pushback from residents who feel the new building would be too big, reported Crain’s. Wilmette’s Plan Commission recently voted unanimously to recommend village trustees to approve the proposed project.
Optima has made several changes, with the firm’s architect and principal, David Hovey, indicating updates now include the addition of terracotta cladding to the building’s facade. The current proposal’s 128 units would make it the largest of three in the Green Bay Road redevelopment section, both in number of units and size.
