Toyota Stadium upgrades on the way

FC Dallas Pursuing Public Funds for Stadium

Some in Dallas want the town to know that the Cowboys are not the only game in town. MSL soccer team FC Dallas is vying for some of the same love. The team hopes to host the MLS All-Star game and wants to spruce up its stadium.

The Dallas Business Journal reports that the team submitted a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicating its plans for $130 million in renovations at its home field, Toyota Stadium. The changes include a 130,000-square-foot expansion “of premium product including clubs and suites” as well as new broadcast and press areas to meet Major League Soccer guidelines.

FC Dallas also appears to be considering asking for $198 million in public funding to help finance the project. The Frisco Community Development Corp. has planned a public hearing to decide if the upgrades will warrant public funding. If so, they will be financed by bonds issued by the CDC and repaid from sales tax revenue.
