Canada-Based Asian Grocery Chain T&T to Make California Debut in San Jose

Canada’s Asian grocery chain T&T Supermarket Inc. will open its first California store and its third in the U.S. next year at San Jose’s Westgate Center, backfilling a 55,000-square-foot former Walmart Neighborhood space at 1600 Saratoga Ave. Advisors at The Econic Company represented T&T in partnership with CBRE.

Econic Company also represented the landlord, Federal Realty.  Westgate Center sits at the major intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Prospect Road in San Jose.

“It’s been a privilege to partner with T&T on their market entry into the United States,” said James Chung, founder and principal at Econic. “As Canada’s largest Asian grocery chain and part of the Loblaw Companies family, T&T is the preeminent East Asian grocery offering whose foundation starts with their CEO Tina Lee and whose culture resonates through their employees and ultimately in the customer experience.”

Added Laura Barr, Americas retail leader at CBRE, “The market is hungry for the quality, range of products and unmatched experience that T&T will bring; we’re excited to see what the future holds for the company as locations begin to open stateside.”
