Wu Extends Office-to-Housing Tax Breaks
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has extended the city’s office-to-housing conversion program through December 2025 and added $15 million in state funding to incentivize developers. The program has already attracted nine applications for 412 housing units in older office buildings. Recent proposals include KS Partners’ 80 units at 15 Court Square and Wingate Cos.’ 21 units at 150 Milk St.
“Each new building that comes through this will also make it easier for those that follow,” Wu said at a press conference, which CIM Group has proposed to convert into 100 or more apartments. The state funding targets larger projects (70,000 sq. ft. or more) and offers up to $215,000 per income-restricted unit, with a cap of $4 million per project. Officials expect the extension to create another 300-500 housing units.
