Just A Start Breaks Ground on Cambridge Rental Building

Just A Start began construction on 52 New Street in North Cambridge, MA, creating 106 rental homes on a previously vacant site. The six-story building will include 3,500 square feet of commercial space.

Financing includes $41.6 million from MassHousing and $43 million in tax credit equity from state and federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits, among other sources. Construction, managed by Callahan, Inc. and designed by RODE Architects, is expected to complete by fall 2025.

The project will feature 22 one-bedroom, 62 two-bedroom, and 22 three-bedroom apartments, with 17 units for households earning up to 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI), 79 for those up to 60%, and 10 for those up to 80%. “52 New Street will be Just A Start’s largest-ever construction project, arriving when Cambridge residents need it most,” said executive director Carl Nagy-Koechlin.
