Skanska Secures $24M Contract to Improve MBTA’s Red Line
Skanska has secured a $24 million contract from the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) to enhance the Red Line with supplemental track improvements during six 24/7 track outages scheduled for 2024.
The project, aimed at enhancing Boston’s busiest subway line, involves a comprehensive scope. It includes replacing ties, rail, and restrained rail along tangent, curved, and restrained curve tracks. Additionally, broken or lock spike plates will be replaced with pandrol plates, insulators, and C-Bonds. The project also involves the replacement of contact rail and ballast, joint elimination through thermite welding, and repairs to the direct fixation and floating slab, including concrete repairs and replacement.
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the MBTA through this new project on the Red Line,” said Rob Pine, vice president of operations for Skanska USA Civil’s New England region. “This work will bring vital improvements to Boston’s busiest subway line, an essential part of the daily commutes of Bostonians across the city.”
