Sleeping centers slated for Miami airport

Miami Airport Okays Sleeping Centers

Many of us have experienced long delays at airports. Our top option is to get some rest on the less-than-comfortable chairs at our gate. The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners is sympathetic to those travelers and is spending $10 million to create sleeping centers at Miami International Airport.

A company called Hotelzo LLC DBA Wait N Rest builds sleeping centers and is in line to receive the contract. The proposal indicated Hotelzo will oversee the construction, management and operation of two sleeping centers — one in the airport’s north terminal and one in the south terminal. They would be available to the public 365 days, 24 hours, seven days per week.

The S. Florida Business Journal reports Hotelzo is signed for a five-year term with an option to renew for another five years. Its vendor contract dictates 25% of Hotelzo’s gross revenue goes to Miami-Dade. If Hotelzo renews its contract, the county estimates it will receive $10 million over the 10-year period.
