Walmart Adding Three DFW Superstores
The massive inflow of out-of-staters coming into Texas is not lost on the nation’s top retailers. National chains typically chase rooftops, and when a state is growing at over 600,000 a year, it’s not complicated.
Walmart plans to open three stores in the towns of Celina, Frisco and Melissa, and one in the Houston area, in Cypress. The Dallas News reports they will be the first new Texas stores since 2018. The announcement comes just months after the retailer stated that it aimed to open 150 new locations and remodel hundreds of other stores.
The Walmart footprint and cost of the stores are unlike those of most other retailers. The estimated cost for the new Frisco Walmart store is $13.5 million. It is expected to be around 197,000 square feet and will be at 16600 FM 423. The Celina store is expected to go on the corner of Preston Road and Collin County Outer Loop, and the Melissa store on the corner of McKinney Street and Legacy Ranch Drive.
