DC Developer Warrenton Group Bids for Virginia Casino

The Warrenton Group, led by CEO Warren Williams, is among the contenders for developing a new casino in Petersburg, Virginia. Teaming up with casino operator Delaware North, they are competing with big names like The Cordish Cos., Bally’s Corp., Penn Entertainment Inc., and Rush Street Gaming LLC, Washington Business Journal reported.

The Virginia General Assembly will soon decide whether Petersburg will hold a referendum on the casino this November. The outcome hinges on whether a reenactment clause is added back to the legislation, which could delay the referendum until 2025 if approved. The proposals for the casino project include various amenities such as restaurants, entertainment facilities, hotels, and housing complexes.

Cordish, in partnership with Bruce Smith, is proposing a $1.4 billion entertainment district anchored by a Live! Casino & Hotel. This opportunity follows unsuccessful attempts to establish a casino in Southside Richmond. Urban One Inc., initially selected for the Richmond project, is not involved in the Petersburg proposals.
