Lab Developer Alexandria Buys Allston WBZ Studio Site

An affiliate of Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. has purchased the WBZ-TV studio site in Allston for $7 million from The Mount Vernon Co, Boston Business Journal reported. The property, located at 1200 Soldiers Field Road, has city approval for redevelopment into three lab-and-office buildings and an apartment complex.

National Development and Mount Vernon received approval from the Boston Planning and Development Agency in January 2023 for the project, which includes 700,000 square feet of life sciences and office space, as well as an 85-unit apartment building. The redevelopment and the new WBZ studio have not yet begun construction.

National Development’s Ted Tye stated that Alexandria is now their partner on the property, but there are no changes to the project’s status or schedule. The purchase is part of Alexandria’s recent activity, which includes selling several properties in South Boston and Newton. Despite these sales, Alexandria recently closed on a parcel in Southie for $43 million.
