Google to Build $1B Data Center in Kansas City
Google is developing a $1 billion state-of-the-art data center in Kansas City, Missouri, that will be located at the Hunt Midwest Business Center.
The data center will support the company’s AI innovations and add 100 operational jobs. The news follows Meta’s announcement in 2022 to locate its $800M hyperscale data center in Kansas City as well.
Google purchased 78.9 acres in Northland back in 2019, followed by another 236.4 acres in December 2021, at the time stating that it was for a “potential data center.” Google later shared that the data center campus will be feature several ancillary buildings spanning 1.435 million square feet of space.
“Google’s selection of the Kansas City region is another example of our state’s ability to attract and support world-class companies,” said Governor Mike Parson. Google also announced it will bring its Skilled Trades and Readiness (STAR) program to the area, collaborating with the Missouri Works Initiative and the Urban League to help increase the entry-level pipeline in the skilled trades.
