Seattle Mayor Proposes Plan to Increase Housing Density

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell has released a draft of a new plan to allow new types of housing across the city and expand density to accommodate the city’s growth in the next decades.

The Draft One Seattle Plan proposes new types of housing to be allowed across the city, focusing on expanding density in areas near light rail and public transit and bringing missing middle housing to every neighborhood.

The draft Plan includes a wide range of elements, including land use, transportation, housing, economic development, climate and environment, parks and open space, arts and culture, and more. Key components of the plan and potential zoning changes include designating 24 new neighborhood centers with increased housing capacity. The plan also envisions expanding the boundaries of existing transit-served centers, increasing anti-displacement measures in zoning regulations and prioritizing transit-oriented growth.
