Skanska to Renovate MetLife Stadium For ’26 World Cup Final

Skanska has commenced renovations on MetLife Stadium, aiming to enlarge the playing field to meet FIFA size standards for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. The project will enable the stadium to host eight tournament games, including the prestigious Final.

The renovation includes demolishing sections of existing precast seating, installing a new modular steel composite seating system, and removing 1,740 seats to expand the field. The seating adjustments will maintain current NFL seating quantities and layouts.

To minimize disruption, the renovation will occur in two phases, with Phase I starting in January 2022 and scheduled for completion by May 2024. Phase II will follow in January 2025, expected to be finished by May 2025. Skanska previously built MetLife Stadium in 2010, creating a venue for the New York Giants and New York Jets, as well as hosting concerts and Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.
