  • Espero Rutland, a $34 million permanent supportive housing complex for those experiencing chronic homelessness, has finished construction and is now open. Caritas of Austin began construction in August 2021 in partnership with the Austin Housing Finance Corporation and The Vecino Group. $7.5 million in city bonds are going toward housing vouchers to subsidize the building operations.
  • Whitestone REIT (NYSE: WSR) has purchased Garden Oaks Shopping Center, a 107,000-square-foot shopping center in northwest Houston. German grocer Aldi anchors the center, which was 96 percent leased at the time of sale to a mix of 19 service and convenience-based tenants, including Planet Fitness. 
  • Architect Connie Rivera, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, recently joined Texas-based Pfluger Architects as Co-managing Principal of the firm’s Corpus Christi office, where she will drive growth and innovation in educational facility planning, design and construction administration in the Coastal Bend region. An accomplished project manager and ardent champion of both architecture and lifelong learning, Rivera has led successful projects in the education and municipal sectors across South Texas.
  • Adolfson & Peterson Construction recently completed the Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center, a state-of-the-art two-story, 150,000-square-foot facility in Allen, 25 miles north of downtown Dallas. It includes two gymnasiums with three recreation courts and eight competitive multipurpose courts. Additional amenities include an indoor walk/jog track with both flat and inclined stair options, weights and cardio areas for independent fitness, and group fitness areas.
  • JT Magen announced that Bud Norris has joined the firm’s Austin office as Business Development Representative. Norris will lead business development efforts for JT Magen in Texas, playing a crucial role in the firm’s regional growth and expansion. Following his storied 14-year career in Major League Baseball, most recently with the St. Louis Cardinals, Norris transitioned his skills to the construction industry. He will focus on building relationships in the construction market and sourcing new work in the region, where his local network is set to play a role in the company’s ongoing growth and expansion efforts.
