Prime Data building $1.3B datacenter outside Austin

$Billion Data Center in Works Outside Austin

SkyBox and Prologis have recently built large data centers in outlying Austin. Another, although details are scarce, is looking to dwarf the ones up and going. Caldwell County Commissioners are mulling over incentives for construction of a $1.3 billion data center in the small county of 40,000 residents. Prime Data Centers is listed on the application.

The Austin Business Journal reports commissioners will consider three tax abatement agreements for it and the establishment of a tax increment reinvestment zone for the site. While data centers don’t create many long-term jobs, they do add value to a city’s tax rolls because of the large amount of investment at the sites.

The Caldwell County project would take place on a 206-acre parcel along Farm to Market Road 2720 and Bobwhite Road.

The venture also appears to be tied to “Project Snow,” the code name for an unidentified economic development initiative that commissioners voted to move forward with on Jan. 23 after a discussion about it in executive session
