Airplane Parts Maker Seeking State Aid for $40M Expansion

One of San Marcos’s largest employers wants to expand its current manufacturing plant. But it wants some state incentives to do it. CFAN Co. currently employs 460 residents but says it will add to that number if it gets some help on its growth plans. The town needs to nominate the company to qualify for grants under the Texas Enterprise Zone Act. The Austin Business Journal reports the designation would enable the company to apply for refunds of future state sales and use taxes that it pays. CFAN is considering investing $40 million at the location between 2024 and 2029.

The company was founded in 1991 as a 50-50 joint venture between Ohio-based GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines of France, two of the world’s leading aerospace companies. CFAN’s roots were planted in San Marcos in 1993, and the company now operates a 270,000-square-foot facility at 1000 Technology Way where it produces the blades that go into airplane jet engines. Boeing is a big customer.
