Trucking Group to Build $1.9B Memphis-Area Battery Plant
Cummins, Daimler Truck and Paccar are joining forces on a massive battery facility just across the Mississippi border from Memphis. The plant will cost $1.9 billion to build, but to offset some of the costs, the Mississippi legislature okayed an incentive package worth $365 million. The operation would produce batteries for medium and heavy-duty commercial electric trucks and industrial applications. It is set to be located in the 3,600-acre Chickasaw Trails Industrial Park near U.S. Hwy. 72, Miss. Hwy. 302, and I-269 in Byhalia, Mississippi.
Work is set to begin this spring or summer, with a targeted launch date of 2027.
The Northeast Mississippi project has a 500-acre footprint at the Chickasaw Trails park. Power would be provided by the Chickasaw Electric Cooperative, which falls under TVA jurisdiction.
Cummins, Daimler Truck, and Paccar would each own 30% of the venture. The remaining 10% is to be owned by a technology partner, EVE Energy.
Connect Industrial Midwest 2024 will take place on March 5, 2024, at Joe’s Live in Rosemont, Illinois. Click here for more information and to register.
