Samsung Supplier Moving Ahead with $130M Killeen Expansion
MGC Pure Chemicals is planning to double its plant capacity. As a result, the City of Killeen will provide nearly $2 million in incentives. The Austin Business Journal reports the company, which provides ultra-clean gas for the semiconductor industry, will now move forward on a nearly $130 million expansion that will serve customers in the Austin area like Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.
MGC Pure, which opened its plant four years ago, is expected to complete its build-out by May of 2025. It will include the addition of a rail spur, new manufacturing plants and a new maintenance building. The improvements are estimated at $89.2 million for real property and $40.7 million for personal property.
MPCA’s project is the latest example of the impact of the new multibillion-dollar, next-generation Samsung plant in Taylor, which is being built about 60 miles southeast of Killeen. The Samsung plant is expected to result in thousands of jobs and millions in investment from suppliers that serve the facility.
