DNC Names Firms for United Center Event Construction
The firms that will provide event construction and management for the upcoming 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago have been selected.
McHugh-Powers UC, a joint venture between McHugh Construction and Powers & Sons Construction Co., will serve as construction manager. Populous, which has worked on previous conventions, Super Bowls, and Olympic games, was chosen as the event architect.
Hargrove + Show Strategy is the event manager. Show Strategy is the exposition services provider. Show is the first Black-owned firm to serve as the lead contractor for this scope of work.
All the firms have a Chicago-area presence and will subcontract with local firms. The Chicago Host Committee and DNC Committee considered experience, reliability, costs, and relationships to the Chicago area in their selections, as well as union activity and a history of working with women and minorities. The convention will take place August 19 through August 22 at the United Center and McCormick Place.
