Amazon Set to Grow Round Rock Presence
Amazon has secured a number of zoning approvals from Round Rock that would allow them to build a last-mile delivery station and a data center.
Of 135 acres the company owns in the area, a portion would be used for an Amazon last-mile delivery station, where packages that are already ready for shipment are brought into the building, sorted and then loaded onto delivery trucks to bring to customers within a 50-mile radius. Amazon says it would create up to 200 jobs.
The plan would be to start construction by the end of 2024 and complete it within 12 months.
Amazon is also looking to turn a nearby site into a data center, but could switch their plans if things change. Amazon’s project would join a wave of data centers popping up north of Austin, including a bunch of projects from Dallas-based Skybox Datacenters LLC and Prologis Inc. in Pflugerville and Hutto.
