MLSA buys La Villita, creating renovation plan

La Villita has New Owner with a Plan

A veteran hospitality investor is hoping to finally do something with La Villita Assembly Hall, the venue featuring an inverted dome roof. MLSA Ventures has the building under contract and plans to find a way to connect it closer to the River Walk. It’s stood idle for years, enduring various starts and stops from various interested parties.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports the new plan is expected to include a mix of new food and beverage venues in a historic village only footsteps from the River Walk and Hemisfair.

The La Villita Assembly Hall was constructed in 1959, nearly a decade before the opening of San Antonio’s 1968 World’s Fair. The 25,000-square-foot venue has hosted various events over the years, including festivals and concerts. MLSA officials said much of 2024 will be reserved for flushing out redevelopment plans for the venue. Work could begin as soon as 2025.
