Microship gets $90M grant from US to expand Denver factory

$90M Grant Okayed for CO Chip Builder Expansion

Microchip Technology says a recently okayed federal grant of $90 million will go toward modernizing and expanding the company’s Colorado Springs campus.

Microchip Technology manufactures microcontroller units and semiconductors that are used in products like electric vehicles, airplanes, cell phones, washing machines and other aerospace, defense and medical goods. The incentive is part of the CHIPS and Science Act, which authorized $280 billion in tax credits, loans and research and development programs to bolster the manufacturing of microchips and semiconductor chips stateside.

Microchip’s campus in Colorado Springs currently sits at 579,248 square feet across six buildings.

Microchip employs approximately 1,000 people in Colorado. The expansion will create 400 additional jobs in the region.
