SA grants award for $1B airport terminal expansion

$1B SA Airport Terminal Expansion Contract Awarded

The San Antonio City Council okayed a construction manager at risk contract with Hensel Phelps Construction Co. for a $1 billion terminal development project. The project is expected to generate 6,000 jobs. The terminal development plan is expected to be completed by 2028. City officials said some core construction work could begin by late next year or early 2025.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports Hensel Phelps is a global aviation terminal contractor, the largest such firm in the U.S. It’s been involved in airport projects in several cities, including Houston, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Miami and Seattle.

The new terminal project will include a 17-gate concourse and apron, as well as a new Federal Inspection Service area. It will also include the expansion of elevated roadways and a multistory ground transportation center, along with a new north ramp to accommodate additional overnight aircraft parking.
