Huge C. Florida Ranch Sold for Solar Farm
Florida Power & Light has paid $212 million for a 40,000-acre ranch in Osceola. The Orlando Business Journal reports the property will likely be used as a solar farm. The seller of the El Maximo Ranch was a group associated with the Investment Corp. of Dubai. The land last sold in two separate transactions in 2018 for $144.4 million. The property, formerly a ranch, is largely south of State Road 60 and east of the Kissimmee River.
If FPL follows through on the project, it would be the largest in the country. Solar Star, a 3,200-acre solar farm in California, is reportedly the largest solar farm currently in the country.
Florida has over 11,747 megawatts of solar installed, which ranks at No. 3 in the country. The state has enough solar to power roughly 1.4 million homes, and the state has over 11,761 jobs tied to the solar industry.
