New Galveston Port Cruise Terminal to Cost $140M, Add 900 Jobs
The Port of Galveston has approved a contract to get moving on a fourth cruise terminal. Bermello Ajamil & Partners has won the project’s $5.3 million engineering and architecture services contract. The full scope of work that BA will perform includes designing the terminal building, a parking garage, marine structure improvements and a passenger boarding bridge. BA will also design civil improvements such as surface parking, access roads and utilities.
The Houston Business Journal reports that plans to finance the project with a combination of port cash reserves and revenue bonds can also be finalized once the budget is finalized. Early estimates are that the project cost will be almost $140 million. Adding a fourth cruise terminal is expected to create 925 jobs for the local economy.
The new terminal is expected to be open at Pier 16 as early as 2025.
