$460M Charlotte Pipe plants opens for business

$460M Charlotte Pipe Factory Open Doors

After decades of planning, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry has finally opened the doors of its new plant. The factory represented a $460 million investment at a 700-acre site in the Oakboro area of Stanly County. It replaces a factory that’s been in Uptown Charlotte for more than 100 years.

The Charlotte Business Journal reports the cast iron, plastic pipe and fittings manufacturer has over 530 employees at the new plant, which became fully operational last month.

The foundry includes 11.5 acres under roof. It took more than 1.2 million man-hours by construction workers to build the plant. It’s being touted as one of the most technologically advanced foundries in the world.

State and local incentives for the Charlotte Pipe project totaled more than $50 million.

Charlotte Pipe has more plans at the site. The new foundry has been built across just 130 of the 700 acres the company acquired.
