City and Chicago State Unveil $250M Redevelopment Plan for 95th St.

At a recent “Re-envisioning 95th Street” event, Chicago State University and the City of Chicago unveiled plans the partnership has for a 95th Street Corridor Development.

The long-term investment would create a university village in the Roseland community, with an initial report funded by the Chicago Community Trust focusing on the stretch of 95th Street from Martin Luther King Drive to Cottage Grove Avenue.

The collaboration between the city and the university would reimagine the South Side with plans for mixed-use buildings, including 45,000 square feet of academic and commercial space and 240 units of student and family housing.

The project will cost an estimated $250 million, but no funds have been secured for the project as of yet. The neighborhood renovations would add to the already planned $3.6 billion, 5.6-mile extension of the CTA Red Line and extensive renovations scheduled for the 95th Street Metra station.
