Santa Fe to Launch Film “Studio Village”
Hollywood no longer has the market cornered when it comes to movie studios. Florida and Texas either have multimillion-dollar projects up and going or are in the planning stage. And now, a Santa Fe, New Mexico, group wants to get into the act. PE Real Estate Holdings (“PERE”), a New York City-based real estate development company, has received preliminary approval from the City of Santa Fe to develop Northern New Mexico’s largest film studio in the city’s nascent “Midtown District.” The new film campus is to be called Aspect Studios.
The proposal involves the acquisition and redevelopment of an abandoned art school campus into a mixed-use “Studio Village.” The studios will encompass approximately 20 acres and become the largest studio in northern New Mexico, featuring 8 soundstages (including two of the largest sound stages in the southwest,) nearly 350,000 square feet of production and support space across five different buildings, in addition to retail, residential and hospitality uses.
