BPDA Approves Charlestown Planning Initiative
The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) has approved a new planning initiative for Charlestown and two major projects in the neighborhood: a 22-story residential tower and a large mixed-use development in Sullivan Square. Reported by Boston Business Journal.
The planning initiative aims to encourage the construction of new housing, enhance transportation options, and increase open space in the area. However, the decision faced opposition from residents and elected officials who expressed concerns about excessive density in the neighborhood.
Despite opposition, the BPDA approved the planning initiative, citing extensive community feedback and ongoing dialogue for future projects. The board also approved a 503-unit apartment building and a mixed-use project with residential and lab-office components in Sullivan Square.
