Redevelopment Brings Housing and Lab to Charlestown

RISE, a Boston-based minority-owned developer and construction firm, has received approval from the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) for the first phase of the Sullivan Square Redevelopment project in Charlestown, Boston.

The project, known as the ’40 Roland Street’ project, will redevelop five separate parcels into a 750,000-square-foot mixed-use development, including lab/office space, residential units (20% of which will be affordable), retail/restaurant space, and public parks. The project aims to create a job-centric mixed-use environment, promote equitable outcomes, and contribute to the neighborhood’s growth in the innovation sector.

The development team includes RISE, Boston-based minority developer TRAX, and architectural design firm CBT. The project will also prioritize sustainability, resiliency, and environmental considerations, aiming to meet LEED Gold standards and reduce energy consumption by over 35%. Groundbreaking for the residential buildings is expected soon.
