Solar Panel Maker Chooses York Co, SC for $150M Plant
Solar panel manufacturer Silfab Solar plans to establish a manufacturing facility in York County, South Carolina. The $150 million project is expected to create 800 jobs. It will be capable of producing 2 gigawatts (GW) of cells and 1.2 GW of modules annually.
The company will lease a 785,000-square-foot building in Fort Mill that will produce next-generation solar cell technology. Operations are scheduled for Q3 2024.
As an incentive, the area’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded a $2 million Set-Aside grant to York County to assist with the costs of building improvements.
Silfab Solar designs, engineers and manufactures its own premium brand of high-efficiency solar panels for both residential and commercial use. The company operates two U.S. facilities in Bellingham and Burlington, Washington, and one in Toronto, Canada.
