New Public Health Laboratory in Harlem Tops Off
New York City’s Economic Development Corporation, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, along with Skanska, celebrated the topping-off ceremony for the new NYC Public Health Laboratory building on 137th Street.
The facility, adjacent to the Harlem Hospital complex, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and ready for occupancy in 2026. It will provide job opportunities for local residents, training labs for students, and an auditorium for community use.
The facility will also house the Harlem Express, where people can get screened for STIs with same-day results. The new lab aims to continue the Public Health Laboratory’s legacy of protecting New Yorkers’ health and will support various laboratory testing services, including disease detection, outbreak response, and environmental monitoring.
